Dr Maria (Marianna) Dalamaga is a physician, Clinical Pathologist-Epidemiologist, Professor of Biological Chemistry-Clinical Biochemistry at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in Greece. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina and the National School of Public Health with a master’s degree in Public Health, and completed her PhD at the Medical School of the NKUA and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. With scholarships from the Harvard Foundation and the Onassis Foundation, she graduated from the Harvard School of Public Health with a master’s degree in Epidemiology. She completed her rural medical service at the Health Center of Metsovo, serving the remote mountain community of Milea, where she was declared an Honorary Citizen for her contribution to the local community. She specialized in Clinical Pathology-Laboratory Medicine at NIMTS and Evangelismos hospitals. She has received a Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry from the European Board of Medical Biopathology and is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. She has worked as a clinical pathologist at IASO General Hospital, and as a National Health Service Consultant and later an academic physician at Attikon University General Hospital. She has been honored with 60 Greek and international awards and 7 scholarships, among them the First-Class Award in Sciences from the Academy of Athens, the Choremeio and Empeirikio awards, the Silver Award in the University Research category of the Healthcare Business Awards, the Dimitrios Koutras Award from the Hellenic Endocrinological Society, and the international ICMTH Award. She received the Fulbright Research Award to undertake a Visiting Scholar/Professor appointment at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital (USA). She is Editor-in-Chief of “Metabolism Open” (Elsevier), Section Editor of “Current Obesity Reports” and “Current Nutrition Reports” (Springer), Guest Editor of Special Issues in high-impact journals (Seminars in Cancer Biology, Cancers, etc.), President of the Hellenic Society of Medical Biochemistry, and Special Secretary of the Panhellenic Union of Medical Biopathology. She has served as a reviewer for more than 280 international high-impact journals, including JAMA, and as an evaluator for international research programs (European Innovation Council, Horizon, etc.), while also serving as a national representative in the EU COST program. She has more than 300 publications in reputable international journals, with 16,800 citations and an h-index of 64; 170 publications in special issues of international journals; more than 600 presentations at Greek and international conferences; and 32 monographs, book chapters or educational books. She has been an invited speaker at more than 150 lectures at Greek and international conferences. Her research focuses on cardiometabolic and cancer biomarkers, obesity and adipose tissue. She has ranked among the top 1–2% of the most influential scientists worldwide for consecutive years, according to the latest official data published by Scopus/Elsevier and Stanford University. She is fluent in French and English. She is married and the mother of 2 children.
