Dr Maria (Marianna) Dalamaga is a physician, Clinical Pathologist-Epidemiologist, Professor of Biological Chemistry-Clinical Biochemistry at the Medical School of the University of Athens(NKUA) in Greece. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina, the National School of Public Health with a master’s degree in Public Health, and completed her PhD at the Medical School of the NKUA and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. With scholarshipsfrom the Harvard Foundation (USA) and Onassis Foundation, she graduated from the Harvard School of Public Health with a master’s degree in Epidemiology. She completed field service as a rural physician at the Health Center of Metsovo in the mountain community of Milea, where she was declared Honorary Citizen for her contribution to the local community. She specialized in Clinical Pathology-Laboratory Medicine at NIMTS and Evangelismos General hospitals. She has received a Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry from the European Board of Medical Biopathologywhile she has been Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. She has worked as a clinical pathologist at the IASO General Hospital, and as National Health Service Consultant and later academic physician at the Attikon University General Hospital. She has been honored with 45Greek and international awards, and 7 scholarships, among them the First Section Science Award from the Academy of Athens, the Choremeio and Empeirikio Foundation awards, the Silver Award in Healthcare Business Awards (University Research), the Dimitrios Koutras Award from the Hellenic Endocrinological Society, the International Award ICMTH while she received the Fulbright Research Award for being a Visiting Scholar/Professor at the Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital (USA). She is Editor-in-Chief of “Metabolism Open” (Elsevier Editions), Section Editor of “Current Obesity Reports” and “Current Nutrition Reports” (Springer Editions) journals, Guest Editor of Special Issues in high impact journals (Seminars in Cancer Biology, Cancers, etc), and President of the Hellenic Society of Medical Biochemistry. She has been Reviewer in >210 international journals (among others JAMA) and has participated in several international research grants, being also an evaluator in international research projectsand participating as a national expert representative in Clinical Medicine for the EU COST Association. Her research work is focused mainly on cardiometabolic biomarkers, adipose tissue and obesity. She has more than 200 publications in reputable international journals with more than 7100 citations and an h-index of 45 (20/01/2023); 110 publications in supplements of international journals; >500 announcements in Greek and international conferences; 27monographs, chapters in collective volumes or educational books. She has been an invited speaker to over 110 lectures in Greek and international conferences. She is fluent in French and English.
